I had the same problem, The problem is that the tumbler lid is to smooth and there is no grip from the spinning wheel. I solved this problem by taking a kitchen steak knife and roughing up the edge of the tumbler where it rides on the spinning wheel. Works great now. Best of luck
Rotary rock tumblers are pretty simple so here are a few simple steps to isolate the problem and maybe correct it. You didn't mention which brand or model you have so these guidelines are pretty generic, but should help. 1st, remove the barrel completely and see if the drive shaft is spinning. If the drive shaft is spinning without the barrel then the belt is loose (very common) and you need to tighten it a little. If the drive shaft isn't spinning then you have a problem with the belt or motor. Either the belt is broken (very common) or the motor isn't turning. If the belt is broken then replace it and try again. If the motor isn't turning then either the motor is bad or there's a switch that's bad (or turned off) or there isn't any electricity. Check the electricity by plugging in a lamp where the tumbler is plugged in. If the light doesn't come on then you need an electrician. If it does then then plug in the tumbler and test any switches by turning them off then on. If the motor never starts turning then you have a bad motor or bad wiring. Either way the next steps are electrical repair/replace and the best thing you can do is return the tumbler to the store and exchange it for a new one.
