Does it behave as if the power was suddenly cut? If so, does it have a separate ac adapter / power supply (usually a rectangular box about 1 x 2 x 4" with a cord to the ac, and a separate cord to the tv)? If that was failing, you might have such a problem. Replacements might run around $10 (more or less) on ebay, depending on the model tv.
Fault to the main power supply regulator section. Either it will be a separate board, or the part of main board.
