My TV randomly starts flipping channels and the only way to stop it is to turn it off and back on then the TV works again for a while before it all starts again.. Also the remote reception is very poor even with new batteries I have to stand exactly in front of hte TV within 4 - 5 feet to change channel
Either the remote batteries are dying causing you this problem Or the IR (infar red sensor) is faulty and thinks you are changing the channel. It is controlled by capacitors and resistors and will need to be tested with an oscilloscope and a VOM (volt/ohmmeter) to determine if that's exactly what is wrong. A service manual will also be needed for specs

I'm not blaming the remote, but the infared sensor on the tv itself. The sensor that reads the remote signal.
