My Webroot Backup Password Won't Work
I recently bought Webroot Spy Sweeper and Anti-Virus. It's working great except for the backup. A pop up box pops up on my screen and asks me for my password. It has my User Name in the box but not the password. I know my password is correct because you guys have emailed it to me many times. What do I do??? I would like a backup but it won't let me log in! It keeps saying that the password is not correct but it is. Please Help!

OKAY HERE IS THE SOLUTION! FIRST OF ALL IF ANYONE HAS THIS PRODUCT AND MAY HAVE INSTALLED IT ON ANY COMPUTER OTHER THAN THEIR OWN, IT IS POSSIBLE THAT SOMEONE ELSE HAS REGISTERED THE PRODUCT AND IN DOING SO, THEY WOULD HAVE CREATED A USER ID: AND PASSWORD: IN THIS CASE YOU WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO PROVIDE THIS INFORMATION BECAUSE IT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE TO GUESS THEIR CHOICE OF NAME AND PASSWORD. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED TO ME, MY BROTHER'S COMPUTER WAS MINE AT ONE TIME, HE THEN PURCHASED IT FROM ME AND REGISTERED THE SPY SWEEPER SO THAT IS WHY I COULDN'T PROVIDE THE CORRECT PASSWORD.
SOLUTION; NO MATTER YOUR CONDITION, IF YOU ARE GETTING A PROMPT FOR A USER NAME AND PASSWORD AND NOTHING WORKS, THE FIRST THING YOU MUST DO IS CALL SPY SWEEPER (I MUST TELL YOU A BIT ABOUT THIS AT THE END) AND MAKE SURE THAT IF YOU USED YOUR CREDIT CARD TO BUY THE SOFTWARE THAT IT IS YOUR NAME THAT IS REGISTERED TO IT. IF YOU ARE NOT THE ORIGINAL BUYER YOU HAVE NO RIGHTS AS YOU SHOULDN'T. SO AFTER YOU DO THIS, YOU THEN REQUEST SOFTWARE FROM WEBROOT TO BE EMAILED TO YOU.. THE SOFTWARE 'WIPES ALL PREVIOUS WEBROOT INSTALLATIONS' FROM YOUR HARD DRIVE.. IT IS A 'DELETER'. WHILE STILL ON THE PHONE.. REQUEST ALSO A EMAIL LINK TO REINSTALL WEBROOT ALONG WITH YOUR PRODUCT KEY... AFTER THE DELETER, REBOOT AND NOW GO INTO YOUR EMAIL AND CLICK ON THAT 'REINSTALL' LINK.. THIS WILL START A PROGRAM THAT WILL SAY 'RUN' SO RUN THAT AND WHEN PROMPTED PUT IN YOUR REGISTERED PRODUCT KEY..
WALLA.. NOW YOU CAN EITHER CREATE A NEW (WORKING) USER NAME AND PASSWORD OF YOUR OWN OR SIMPLY CLICK CANCEL TO THE 'ONLINE BACKUP' REGISTRATION BY JUST CLICKING ON 'CANCEL' WHEN YOU DO THIS YOU WILL NO LONGER GET A PASSWORD PROMPT!! I PROMISE.. I AM NOT GETTING ONE NOW.
SO THIS PROBLEM OF BEING PROMPTED FOR A PASSWORD HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH GOING INTO THE REGISTRY AND DELETING ENTRIES.. NO YOU HAVE TO CALL WEBROOT AND REQUEST THESE LINKS AND FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS.
PHONE SUPPORT: I PROMISED TO MENTION THIS SO HERE I GO. WHEN YOU CALL WEBROOT'S FREE PHONE TECH SUPPORT YOU WILL HAVE TO WAIT AND LISTEN TO JAZZ MUSIC FOR AT LEAST 1 HOUR. DURING THE 1 HOUR WAIT YOU WILL BE ASKED OVER AND OVER TO OPT FOR THE PHONE TECH SUPPORT # THAT HAS A MUCH LESS WAIT TIME THAN THE 'FREE' PHONE TECH SUPPORT.. YOU WILL, HOWEVER, HAVE TO PAY MONEY FOR THE FAST RESPONSE. I WAITED, I JUST DID OTHER STUFF WHILE THE JAZZ PLAYED AND PLAYED.
ANOTHER OPTION IS TO HAVE WEBROOT TAKE OVER YOUR COMPUTER REMOTELY.. THIS LOVELY OTPION WILL COST YOU MORE THAN THE SPY SWEEPER PROGRAM ITSELF AT $29.99?? NO THANKS WEBROOT!
SO NOW YOU KNOW..

Yes, I have the very same problem as above. Webroot won't recognize my password even though it is correct.

that is the link to the fix for this problem. enjoy.
Has anybody verified the solution #1 offered above by nidafjoll on Jan 16 ? I want to remedy the situation we all have, but I am reluctant to to be the first to try the suggestion.
The only way I have found to fix this issue is to do the following:
Step 1. Uninstall Webroot Antivirus
Step 2. Reboot computer
Step 3. Open up the Windows registry by clicking on Start "Run" and type regedit and hit enter or click Run
Step 4. Go to File and Export - pick a name like registrybackup and choose the desktop as the save location
Step 5. Go to Edit and then Find Next, in the "Find what" enter Webroot then click on Find Next
Step 6. Delete entry that contain Webroot
Step 7. Repeat Steps 5 & 6 until no more entries are found
Step 8. Go to Edit and then Find Next in the "Find what" enter Spysweeper the click on Find Next *** You may not have an entry, if this is the case skip to Step 11 ***
Step 9. Delete entry that contains Spysweeper
Step 10. Repeat Steps 8 & 9 until no more entries found
Step 11. Reboot the computer
Step 12. Reinstall Webroot Antivirus
Step 13. Run Webroot Antivirus and cancel out of the Account setup wizard NOT the installation wizard. This will bring you to the main area of Webroot where you will be able to get updates, scan, etc.
This should kill the popup window.
