Check for screws on this stat. If no screws than you need to exert force to remove the cover. Will you damage it? Who cares! You are replacing it. Just be sure you remember the color code. R to red, W to white and etc.
Honeywell programable stats are availible from Home Depot for under $50.

- Pull the faceplate (bottom) straight out from the wall.
- Loosen the screws at the end of the wires, like the one in the middle at the tip of my middle finger.
- Remove the 2 screws which hold the rest in.
- Make a note of which wires were attached to what. I suggest taking pictures.
