Best to remove the front section of the exhaust entirely or perhaps the complete system.
If the oil drain plug threads are stripped it is usually possible to carry out a repair without removing the oil pan, or sump as we British call it.
I think from your question we can assume you aren't very familiar with this type of auto repair. Whether you need to repair or replace the sump or to carry out work on the inside of the engine crankcase I advise you to allow plenty of time.
Even when the oil has been drained, once the sump has been removed the engine continues to drip old engine oil for many hours and sometimes even days afterwards making it a very unpleasant task to work underneath and what is worse makes it very difficult to keep the sump/crankcase joint faces clean and oil-free which is essential to obtain an oil-tight joint after reassembly.
When I do this sort of work I try to remove the sump last task of the day and then leave it at least overnight with a drain pan and lots of old news paper underneath.
