Needle Plate adjustment
How do I adjust the needle plate for rolled hemming? There seems to be a red lever beside markings ''S'' and ''R'' but I don't want to force it the wrong way. There may be something else I have to do before it will move.

ABSOLUTELY !!
R = Rolled
You will need to move the Upper knife blade out of the way, adjust S to R then restore blade to original position.
You have not mentioned Make or Model, so I will stab at the method........from the left of the machine inside the door you will see a knurled knob to adjust the width of the cutting........if you push it to the right, it will move the blade.......rotate it 90 degrees out of the way, move the chaining finger to R, put the knife back....... et voila
