I dont know about the car you have........but the last bmw i looked at (325i) you had to raise it, remove the metal stone guard pan for access. then it required a t series star drive or allen socket head wrench to compress and push back the gas capsule tensioner. we had to buy a disc and upload it on the computer to see the diagrams. its not a real homeowner project. its a normal service interval related task. call your bmw mechanic if thats what it is. its simple for him.
