Netgear dg834gt problem connecting to hp pavilion dv4000
Hi iam having a problem connecting my wireless hub to my laptop which is a hp pavilion dv4000. I can find the wireless box via the wireless search on the laptop but i cannot connect, the message that appears everytime i try to connect is, "windows is unable to connect to the selected network. the network may no longer be in range. please refresh the list of availiable networks, and try to connect again".
So i refreshed the list and the same problem occurs over and over again, I have been through the settings changed channels, encrypted passwords, even took of the encrption to try if it connects openly but still the same problem.
Iam so confused about this problem as I have never come across such a thing withing the time of working with computers. Much appreciated if I can get a fast reply as the laptop will need to be in use for university.

NOTE: The following setup info .is for da PPPoA connection type.(most common in UK).
Its advised to keep da ethernet connected to your laptop untill you configure da wireless on the router, you can disconnect da ethernet cable after the confoguration is over to connect wirelessly.
Try the following: check if your PC is communicating correctly with router. (You might need to restart the computer, after the router is connected to it). On the desktop click on Start and then on Run. In the open box, type cmd.
It will bring up the command prompt window
Type command ipconfig in that window and press the Enter / Return key on the keyboard. It will bring up results similar to the image below.
Note the values of IP Address and Default Gateway in the ipconfig command results. If the IP address is in the range of 169. 254.x.x or 0.0.0.0, then your PC is not communicating to the router. In such a case contact your router vendor for support.
If the IP Address is in the range of 192.168.x.x then the network setup should be ok. Note down the values of IP Address and Default Gateway. Close the command prompt window.
Open Internet Explorer window and in the address bar type in the address that you found for Default Gateway. In case of a Netgear router it should be 192.168.0.1
It should bring up the logon window similar to the image below. Type the router username and password in the respective text boxes. Refer your product manual for the default Router username and password. In case of most Netgear routers, default username is admin and password is password. Then click on the Login button to continue.
In the next window that appears, click on the setup wizard button
This should bring up the Setup Wizard page similar to the image below. Select Country as UK and Language as English. Under Auto-Detect Connection Type, select No. Then click on Next button.
Basic Settings page will appear. Under Does Your Internet Connection Require A Login?, select Yes.
Configure the following settings in the window:
- Encapsulation: Set it to PPPoA (PPP over ATM)
- Login: Type your login name. (in most cases its the primary email address that you get from your ISP)
- Password: Type you account password. (make sure there are no spelling or case mistakes)
- Service Name: Leave blank.
- Idle Timeout: Set to 0.
- NAT: Select Enable.
Now click on the Apply button. (Please note that it may take up to 5 minutes to apply the new settings)Then ckick on da wireless settings option.( its on the left pane on the window).
- keep the channel as 11.
- mode can be g&b
Make sure that da option WIRELESS ACCESS POINT is enabaled.
Also check da security options .... I would suggest use WPA-PSK encryption.
make a note of da shared key(network password).
ckick apply and wait till it saves the settings.
Disconnect the ethernet and try connecting to the wireless network with the correct security key.
