New routing diagram for the drive belt on my 2004 Cherokee. new belt is 13 inchs shorter (this is to eliminate the squeek problem), my local garage is reluctant to advise me!

I believe the Mechanic is bypassing your AC Compressor. When you look at both of the Belt Routes you can bypass the AC with the shorter belt. In the first Diagram: the Belt would go from the Power Steering Pump, bypassing the AC and going directly to (over the top) of the Water Pump. In the second Diagram: the Belt would go from the Tensioner, bypassing the AC and going directly to (under the bottom) of the Water Pump.
