Hese drive do not usually come partitioned and formatted (as different systems need different formatting)
to do this you need to go into logical drive management to partition the drive. (right click on my computer, select Manage then when the mangement screen comes up select logical drive manager, you should then be able to see your unpartitioned drive which you should then be able to partition and format) if drive is not detected, remember that these devices need "powered" USB ports, which makes use on some laptops and some ports on PCs difficult as some ports are "low powered" ports, which means the drive can not draw enough current.
this can be resolved by using a "powered" USB hub, to supply the extra power.
