No lights..meaning no 5 amp lights. Unit does not power on. Can I interchange a similar power supply from a different company or do I need to replace with an actual Akai power supply?

Best to replaced same power supply board.Because of voltage and amps in the boad,will burn ur other boards,not same in and out put AC/DC out for other boards.
