Either the disc is already finalized or there isn't enough space on the disc for finalization. Check if you have Auto-finalize enabled. Press Setup and go to the line "General Settings" with the up/down arrows. Press Enter. Then select Recording and Enter. Go to the Auto Finalize line and press Enter. Check both Disc Full and End of Timer Rec and see if these are set to On or Off.
