No output on Monitor
Hi,
Last week I cleaned my cabinet, then switched ON my PC it started but there was no display on the Monitor, the Green Light was blinking giving an indication that it has started but the Red light was not blinking. After a few try outs my PC suddenly started but then again when I Shut down the PC & again started it gave me the same problem. Now my PC directly starts after switching on the Main Supply but there is no display, my hard disk is also functioning. I am confused as of what could be the problem please help.

You cleaned the computer case out with a can of compressed air for computers? You had the computer unplugged from the surge protector? You touched the metal frame of the open computer case, to relieve your body of static electricity?
IF so, then I suggest the power supply is bad. It is weak. There is just enough power to light lights, and spin fans, but not enough to turn the processor on.
At first, the power supply was just strong enough to turn the processor on, after you repeatedly pushed the Power On button. (Sometimes unplugging it from the surge protector, waiting a few seconds, then plugging it back in and pushing the Power On button, will get it to start)
Now it is so weak, that it just lights, lights, and spins fans. The harddrive is just sitting there spinning.
ALL the lights use about 1 Watt of power. EACH fan uses 2 to 3 Watts. (Yes, even the power supply fan will spin) The harddrive just sitting there spinning the platters inside, uses about 5 watts.
A processor uses 55 to 125 Watts! Depends on the make and model.
Since the processor isn't running, the harddrive just sits there and spins. Makes it sound like it's running.
NO processor, there is nothing to find the Boot record on the harddrive. Nothing makes the read/write heads on the arms inside the harddrive, go across the platters, and read the info.
No Operating System is found. (WinXP is an example of an O/S)
No computer running, there is no signal to the monitor. The monitor is blank.
Solution? Replace the power supply.
I'm a tech. A computer power supply is about 70 percent of computer failure. Power supply's have a 'Life Cycle', just like all the computer haqrdware components.
The 'weak link' of a computer power supply, are the Electrolytic Capacitors inside it. When these go bad, they develop a gas inside. (Hydrogen gas)
The gas pushes up on a seal, and Electrolytic paste oozes out.
So much paste loss, and the capacitors operate at a weakened state. Too much paste loss, and they fail.
Weak Electrolytic Capacitors, make weak voltage power rails inside a computer power supply.

Hello, It depends on how you cleaned the computer. If you removed the card from the slot then it may not be reseated back into proper alignment. If it is onboard video then there may still be a bit of dirt across one of the chip contacts. The other option would be when you plugged the monitor cable back in, you may have accidently bent a pin on the plug. Make sure that all power to the computer is off for several minutes before disconecting the cable and then look at the cable end to see if one of the pins got bent. Carefully straighten it with fine needle nose pliers then carefully plug it back in. If this doesn't work then you may have created static electricity and blew out the video system.
