This could be a faulty cable or switch, but could also be a faulty motor. The motor also has a built in over-current protection device which normally automatically resets itself, but if the motor has a serious fault or the over-current device itself is faulty then this could be the cause. Both the switch and motor (the over-current device is an integral part of the motor and is not available separately) are available quite cheaply on eBay, but fitting new ones requires good DIY skills (especially the motor), and some unusual tools (Torx drivers).
