No sound I have a midland model 1000. got it used.. when I first turn it on . I get the stactic sound for just a second then it goes quite , I have it open. just looking for the obvious. but see nothing loose or burnt

Check the mic, it can make your radio do funny things if its bad, and a lot of times its the last thing people look for. I had a Cobra 29XLR from 1974...peaked tuned, echo installed...worked great for about three days, then nothing at all. I was bull cause I just dumped 110 bucks into it. I was ready to toss it, then my buddy grabbed it, put it in his Freightlner, hooked up his coax and Rk-56...SOUND!!! So stupid me almost spent another 200 bucks on a new one. So I went and bought an RK-56 for it, and it works awesome.
