Vista says something along the lines of it can't find driver? I had that happen with my new Targus wireless rechargable mouse.
Look in device manager, if it is listed as an UNKOWN DEVICE, you need to manually install driver as HID-compliant mouse.
Details: Go to >Control Panel > System Select Device Manager from lefthand list. There should be an "Unkown Device" in the list. To be sure, expand Mice and other pointing devices and see if your device is already there. Better yet, unplug mouse's receiver and the unkown device should go away. Right click on the unknown device, and choose Update Driver Software... select Browse my computer for driver software then Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer then you need to find Human Interface Devices and subcategory HID-compliant mouse. Vista tends to try and install these devices as USB mice when they should be HID.
