Numark cd mix 3 with display board faulty and trays stuck closed.have checked voltage already which is ok and when i swap the face of another machine on to it it works fine again so think problem is somewhere on back of display board??

The display assembly also contains the main control procesor. If the trays remain closed, it is because they are not being told by the processor to open. Without examining the display section, there is no way to determine the cause of this. It can be as simple as a loss of the 5V line to the front end or a defective microprocesor IC. This unit requires bench time with some test equipment to determine the problem. Where are you located?
If you are able to take off the display board, I would check the solder joints. Use a jeweler's lense, which is a magnifier about the size of a quarter to help look at electronics closely. If the solder is dull gray colored, cracked, or bumpy, it needs re-soldered. I notice this happens on a lot of electronics because the manufacturers use cheap solder for their boards. I have repaired many devices, from TV's to computer mice, by just re-soldering connections with rosin-core, lead-free solder (electrical solder) you can get at RadioShack. Use Desoldering Braid (RadioShack) to remove molten solder, using your soldering iron on top of the braid and solder to remove the old solder. When you solder it again, make sure it's shiny and smooth, fully connecting the pad on the board to the near top of the lead. It should be a flat slope up like a ramp, with no bumps. If you need help with desoldering or soldering, there are many helpful videos and tips on Youtube, just search Desolder, or Solder, if you need help.
Also you could check any capacitors and transistors with your multimeter. Make sure the device is unplugged, and check for continuity with a multimeter (voltmeter).
I hope this helps, and good luck to you. Please let me know if you have any more questions!
This is very common in these units, as you can tell.
User: barbu51 has fixed this before. "I repaired a couple of these before and the problem was in the loading mechanism, under the tray there is the loading motor and a drive belt that connects it to the gears ***`y, if youre a handyman you can take it out but be careful and look how you dismantle/reassemble the tray, also look for dried up grease on the gears center hub." -barbu51

"stick a straight pin or small paper clip in hole just below drawer and push to trip manual door release" -dmftrucker

"Just purchased this unit used, it looks great, but neither tray will open when I push the open/close button. It sounds like it going to open, but then an error message comes up"

I will post another comment for you when I can dig up some more information on how to solve it.

If you are up to it I would take the board out of its case and look at all of the solder joints. Since I would imagine this unit is exposed to an atmosphere that would be conducive to bad solder joints. LCD displays can go bad if abused but otherwise should function for quite a long time as with their drivers that handle all of the data processing from the front panel. You can get a soldering iron, flux and some rosin core solder at radio shack or possibly places like lowes. Don't get a huge iron either because you risk damaging pads and or traces. Don't know if this will help at all but good luck.
