Odometer works only intermittently
Speedometer works sometimes but doesn't work most of the time. I was told by a repair shop that they weren't sure what was causing it, but said the sensor is inside the transmission or transfer case (I can't recall which) and would require possibly $1000 in labor to find the problem. Is this accurate? Is there a way I can troubleshoot this problem myself?
Thanks.

You need to replace the speedometer gear. Its on the passenger side of transmission at the rear, not the magnetic sensor on top. That one is for the computer not the speedometer. Unscrew the sensor and unbolt the gear housing to get to it. I worked for an Isuzu dealer and have sold many of these gears. You can go to www.myisuzuparts.com section 2-25
The sensor is in rear section of extension housing right side of either trans on 2wd or transfer case if 4wd
3 wire sensor and 2 wire sennsors used on these vehicles depending on engine and trans set up
