Hi, I have a ceiling fan that I broke the swich chain, I purchased a new swich , first a 3 speed swich, as My fan has four wires, 3 speeds and a off pull all in one pull chain. the 3 speed swich has a place for four wires also but would not turn the fan off. I took that swich back and got a 4 speed swich thinking one of the speeds would turn the fan off, No it did not the speeds are not even the same as they were, but the worst is I can not turn the fan off when running. Can you help me . the wires colors are black, grey, purple and brown, L 1 2 3 4 is what the old switch said I maybe the wires are not in the right places, I am stumped.s

You need the little coupler thing that connects to the ball that makes up the chain. If you dont have the coupler ... you could get one at your local Ace Hardware store ... or you could just purchase a similar switch which would have the coupler on the chain.
