off every 2 to 3 minutes?
I read that short cycling is not good for A/C compressors, but there is a label on the PAC N115EC indicating that it has a High Efficiency Rotary Compressor. Would the short cycling cause damage to this type of compressor? FWIW, the room stays cool and no error codes are given. I'm just worried about the compressor wearing out. I should add that the A/C compressor only short cycles, after the desired temp is reached. Say I set it for 72F and once it reaches 72F, the compressor turns off, but once the temp goes up to 73F, the compressor comes back on and starts short cycling.

You are correct, short cycling is not good for any A/C compressor and is EXTREMELY inefficient.
At 2 to 3 minutes something is terribly wrong,

It brand new Air conditioner shuts off after about 3 5 minutes of being on...
That testimonial was me and was supposed to be a reply to you. I just joined this fixya community and still trying to get a hang of things here. My apologies
That's perfectly fine. The website isn't always easy to navigate even though it's been around for more than 5 years.
If the room is cool, it sounds like the unit is operating correctly. It could be short cycling because the unit is over sized for the room being conditioned. if you can, increase to size of the load by opening a door into another room. As long as the refrigerant pressures equalize from high to low side internally and the compressor doesn't start up under load, you should be fine
Thank you for your quick reply. I live in a small one bedroom apartment and I have the portable A/C unit in the bedroom. I do keep the door open so it can cool the living room down as well, but the compressor still cycles every 2 to 3 minutes.
