off switch is toggled. I have cleaned the switch and the slide potentiometer and then switched the whole panel with another working switch panel from a different 1001 with the same symptom. What is next step? I had the local gas company look at it and they said the problem was the switch and the unit needed to be replaced as it is out of support and no parts can be found. I doubt that. any suggestions?

I would first contact Rinnai, parts should be available also I would check the room temperature thermistor normally situated at the bottom rear left hand corner
1) heater is an older model, replaced by the 1004 or"es38". Parts for the 1001 are scarce, as the unit is more than 10 yrs old.
2) temperature sensing probe or " thermistor" is located lower right rear, two yellow wires to the black "bulb",and it will not cause power to go off, but will make red flame light go off. Problem is with the settings panels on, off switch. Some gas suppliers may hav some in stock if they are a certified Rinnai reseller, installer.
