Oil doesnt return to oil pan fast enough
I have a 390 FE motor with a high volume oil pump at high RPMs oil wont drain into oil pan fast enough i also have a windage tray on the motor would that cause the oil not go to the pan quickly it is a 1970 ford mustang

Ditch the HV pump a good stock pump will do fine.My gues is your oil press is on the lower side.
If all the engine oil passages are unostructed and clean, you will have to try a lower volume oil pump. Some high performance engines are painted internally with special paint to reduce friction and smooth the down the oil flow down back to the pan.
