Ok..... I have some Wharfedale Modus 8s. My question is, is that the base speaker is crackling a bit. typically when you don't have enough power the tweeters will clip first and go out. perhaps i did overdrive them, .... I don't know. Am using them as surround speakers. Not sure if the amp is up to the challenge It is a 40 ft run but am using 13 16 ga bi-wire. Amp supposedly has 120 watts for all channels. However i am using my Hafler up front for the mains which has gobs of power so not sure if speaker is blown in the rear or perhaps something is loose inside. Any ideas anyone? Any input would be appreciated and yes, I do play it loud. Probably 100 db plus... Thanks again

Dunno how old they are, but I just had an 11-year old pair of woofers re-edged because the foam surround and the adhesive had deteriorated. Upon close inspection the foam surround was noticeably pulled away from the cone in a few spots. Unfortunately, if there is an age-related issue with materials beneath the surface that you can't see, you'd have to pull the driver to check it out.
It wasn't until I turned my bass up loud that anything sounded wrong, which precipitated looking for the culprit (quickly found).
