I posted earlier for someone else, I hv an old quantum fireball plus AS QMP20000AS-A this is how I read the config table on the sticker: Position HDD and labels up and jumper pins facing you. one pin will be far left, kinda stand alone, then 4 pair of pins vertical, one ech. top to bottom , left to right I read: far left set of pins are blank, No meaning given? second pair jumped verticaly is "PK" or Slave/parking pos. third is"CS" Cable Select for master/slave. and last set/pair is "DS" for Master. I only have the one jumper and all configs show a vertical or top to bottm jumper. Mine is in the Slave 'cause I only use for storage and can acces it thru win-eplorer. If this doesn't help your drive may be toast, good luck.
Most Maxtor Drives have jumper setting so that if "Jumper 50" is set; the two pins farthest from the power jack, is Master Drive. No pin jumper set, Slave or Cable Select. I hope this helps.
