ON a Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P there is an 8 pin connector (if you go to the site and view the motherboard it's right behind the "Ultra Durable" cooler) that I can't find a connection for on the power supply and believe that's why I can't get the system to post

You should still be able to use the 4 pin connector from the power supply. The clip side of the connector on the motherboard faces the i/o panel (back). The connector from the power supply has a clip on it and will only fit one side of the moboconnector. With the retaining clip on the power plug facing the back of the mobo see if it fits without any pressure in one end of socket at a time. Do not force it though it could stick and getting it back out can damage the mobo. When it does go in it will slide right in easily. I hope this helps you.
