Since the "Standard" or "Dynamic" automatic picture settings will not work, but apparently the "User" setting will work, might I suggest that you select the "User" setting (which is what I always choose), and while in "User" setting, try adjusting the colour, tint, sharpness, contrast, brightness, and sharpness, and get to a quality image I am sure you will be happy with. Yes, it does take a little bit of time, but I am sure that you will find that "YOU" know what you want your TV's picture to look like, far better than some "picture by factory committee". You know the old joke "What is a "camel" ? It is a "horse" designed by committee !"
With the price of a nice HDTV, I hope you'd agree that it is worth a little trial & error, to make "your picture", not theirs, some "compromise" image voted on by a group back at the factory. I am very fussy on my HDTV's picture, and honestly have never seen any "Standard, Theatre, Dynamic, whatever" automatic picture that I've wanted to use. Now that's me, but just give it a try, some trial & error.
You can do it, and be glad you did !
