Once I start the pump, it takes a while for the suction to start
I recently replaced the pool pump, and the sand in my filter. Once I turn the pump on, it takes a while for the suction to kick in, the water is flowing but no suction, it starts slowly then in spurts then finally gets going. Once it is going, if I interrupt the flow, like cleaning the skimmer basket the process of waiting on the suction starts again. The pump is the HP and voltage as the previous one. I've checked the hoses and can't seem to find a leak if there is one, I've even pulled them off and retighten them again, still the same problem. This only happens when I'm in the filter mode, not when I'm in back wash mode, could it be algae inside the sand filter, I recently opened the pool for the summer and was in the process of cleaning the water when I changed the sand.

If the pump over heated the fittings going into it heated up and tried to expand but couldn't as they were screwed into the pump when they cooled they did shrink. They seem tight but are probally bottoming out when you screw them into the pump. Try replumbing the pump with all new pipes in and out. This should fix the problem. Make sure you kill all the alge before you try to filter it as it will clog the filter bad and could be the orignal cause of this problem.Good Luck and have fun
