One of our assistants has mistakenly opened a new Facebook account for one of our key clients under the same email address. Now only the new empty account is there and I'm worried how to get the old one back. Help! What to do?

Try to login to the new facebook account, click the Account dropdown button and choose Account settings. On the bottom, there is a link "Deactivate account" - click on that. Once deactivated, do not close the window yet. Open a new browser and try to login the facebook account again and see if the OLD account was reactivated.

Thank you for your response, please find my answers below.
1. The Logout option is now actually under the Account dropdown menu on the upper right corner of your Facebook main page. Just click the dropdown arrow and you will see Logout on the bottom.
2. If you can't remember the birthdate you used to open the account, then there is no way to recover login to that email since it is a requirement when resetting passwords for security purposes.
