or ride it. The sound isn't harsh, but it is not a stealth scooter by any means. Tried lubricating the bearings on the rear wheel with bike chain (wax based) lubricant, but no improvement. Am I going to have to take off the rear wheel and deal with chain or brake adjustments, or is a bit of noise normal with these scooters?

No it is not if you are riding it the chain can suddenly stop and you will be thrown off head first off of the scooter and die. DO NOT AND I MEAN DO NOT RIDE UNTILL IT IS PRACTICALLY SILENT. CAUSE ONE TIME I WAS RIDING IT, THE CHAIN STOPPED AND FLUNG ME OFF. I BROKE MY RIB CAGE, BOTH OF MY LEGS, AND MY ARMS. I HAD TO STAY IN THE HOSPITAL FOR A MONTH. THEY HAD TO PUT ME ON BREATHING TUBES BECAUSE MY LUNGS WERE CLASPING. I RECOVERED BUT NOW IM PARALYZED FROM THE WAIST DOWN.
