I have the same problem and found something that kinda worked for me. Hopefully it'll work for someone else. Turn on the flip while holding down the - key. It should power up normally and allow you to view/record etc. Several videos say "Invalid Format" or something like that on the screen, but most are ok and I can record. Better than a completely dead one.
Hold down the minus while turning on. Then plug into the USB. It connected to my PC and I was able to download all my videos! Several are messed up - but at least I salvaged some. I used to really like my FLIP... now it's a F L O P :-(

Try this: pull the battery. Hook it up to the USB. Look in the DCIM folder and delete or copy off what you need. Dismount the unit from the desktop. Put the batteries back in. It should boot. Or worked for me, anyway....
