OUR FELLOWES CROSS CUT SHREDDER WILL KEEP ON RUNNING AFTER THE PAPER HAS BEEN SHREDDED. ARE THERE SENSORS THAT COULD POSSIBLY BE COVERED IN PAPER DUST?
It worked!!! Now my Fellowes DM8C is working like a brand new shredder. At first, I cleaned the sensors several times and it did not work. Then, I disassembled the shredder head, removed the two sensors, cleaned them with a wet cotton towell, put them back in place, reassembled the shredder head and voilà! My shredder automatically starts when the sensors detect paper and stops a few seconds after the paper has passed through. GLEOSA
If you look into the slot you feed the paper into, you should see a two little bumps that are facing each other in the center of the slot. These are the sensors that tell the unit to turn on/off. You can try cleaning them with a paper towel or long q-tip. If this does not fix it, then the sensors will have to be replaced. Most Fellowes machines have a 3-year warranty, you can call Fellowes at 1-800-955-0959 to see if yours is under warranty.
