Filter reminders are based on a set time period. 30 - 60 - 90days etc. It has no idea how dirty the filter is but yes, some houses need a clean filter every month so I would check it. If it is clean you're good. Read the manual on your tstat to change the setting of the reminder, you can even turn the reminder off.
