Our powerbolt does not work well in the cold. It appears as if the batteries no matter how fresh, are not strong enough to turn the bolt. I thought I had seen a new model where the keypad simply unlocked the bolt and then you were able to turn the deadbolt manually. Is such a model available? Thank you. EMK
Batteries, when they are cold, do not give off the same amount of power. You can test this by putting them in a freezer for a few hours and then trying them in a battery operated device. They cold does not hurt them, and they will work fine once they warm up. Depending on how cold the batteries get for your deadbolt this could be the problem. Also if the deadbolt is rubbing at all against the lock plate it could put unnecessary pressure on the motor. Schlage does make a deadbolt system that uses a keypad and a manual turn. The Camelot or Plymouth models.
