Our unit is beeping every 30 seconds repeatedly no matter where we put it in the house. Is this carbon monoxide or the need for a new unit? We tried replacing the battery

Probably not Co. However, try taking it outside (if the weather is not extremely cold) to see if it stops beeping. Remove the battery first, though. Then reinstall it once you're out side. It May beep initially, but should stop once it senses clean air. Are you receiving an error message or code of any type when this occurs. If you do, check your Owners Manual for this code.
FYI - There have been repeated problems with this specific unit. Generally, the Kidde Company will tell you to return the unit to them for repair or replacement. Once you contact them.
