Outboard mercury 80 hp 4 cyl.blueband has not been used for many years i replaced stator, trigger rectifier- wires were burnt. good spark on all now.Compression 120-120-65-120 ,squirted oil in 3rd cyl.compression increased slightly will not start ???? Twice it wanted to but did not
You will need to check that you are getting adequite air and fuel.
If you have good compression and spark, then check airfilter and air going into the motor. Check that there is enough fuel getting into each cylinder also, you may find that one/all of the carburettors have blocked jetting from old fuel which has crystalized over that period of time, if this is the case you will need to get them cleaned out.
Once these other areas are working correctly then you shouldn't have any problems firing it up.
Get a can of starter fluid and a helper. Use a little starter fluid to start it and keep it running for a couple minutes. This will clear what ever partial blockages of junk you may have in the engine. J.
