Overheating when motor is running the upper hose is hot and the lower hose is cool leading me to believe 1 of 3 things. thermostat, water pump, or blocked with sludge
Cars & Trucks - Land Rover - Freelander - 2002 Land Rover Freelander
That would indicated your thermostat is stuck, the other possibility if this is a 4.6 liter that the head gasket is leaking and there is an air pocket not allowing the thermostat to open but i would start small with the thermostat these 4.6 motors love head gaskets so don't overheat it too much more please rate -jeff
The upper hose is suppose to be hot this lets you know that the thermostat is working like it should. if it were cold that would indicate that the thermostat was bad. i would say that it's the water pump because your not getting the circulation if it were a blockage your upper hose would still be cool as well.. hope this helps please rate...thanks
