Owner is having problems with soot forming on the grill. This is an ongoing problem and concerns the homeowner. Is the soot caused by incomplete combustion? Unit is a CF654C counter flow heater and has been in service since Feb. of 2008

Make sure you have at least 18 inchs of oval b vent on top of unit before going to round pipe, if you have an oval to round adp. this can cause combustion issues.
