Pelonis HO-0128 makes strange noise
It sounds like the oil is squirting through some interior part. The noise lasts for a few seconds. The unit is not leaking, but I'm concerned that something is wrong with it.

Nothing wrong with it. This is a normal sound made as the oil heats. As the heater heats up, the sounds should subside.
Mine does that too. not to stated that our noise is one in the same, but I have located my high pitch noise coming from the controls (not the actual radiating heated part). I can quickly get rid of the sound by flipping the control setting from high to medium, then back to high. I too am concerned that there might be something inherently wrong with the heater, and that it might not last, or worse, catch fire later on. I will be returning and getting a replacement for it today. Got 2 of these heaters from Wally World, one is noisy and one is not.
I own an "electronic oil-filled radiator heater" similar to the one you describe and an audible whine is emitted from the control box whenever it's in the Hi or Eco mode, but not the Low mode.
It's a Pelonis brand radiator, manufactured by Intertek
