The trick is, you have to sync up the 2nd controller to the Wii before starting the game.
Turn on the Wii, there's a small cover below the DVD drive that you flip down, (This is also the spot where your SD Memory card can go) There's the red button.
Open the battery area of the 2nd Wii remote. You'll see a small red button.
Press both the red button the Wii Console & the Wii remote. Then it should turn on & Sync.
Once that's done, start the game. It will then recognize the 2 controllers.
Or I should say that once it's sync'd, you'll see both Wii remotes on the channel screen, one will be labeled (1) and the 2nd will be (2)
