Poulan chainsaw 18" 42 cc, pro gas filler cap?
Why would the filler cap not screw on, do these warp or get out of round over a period of time. appears to be ok, but won't thread back on once you remove to fill with fuel???

Yep they swell after a while and will not screw in or out!
Sand the threads down so that the circumference is reduced with a course file or plumbers cloth, chamfer the threads a bit on the edges. A new one will do the same thing after a while so just fix the one you have.
The caps are a pain in the ****. They do swell. I just put mine in the freezer for 5 or 10 minutes and it goes on without any problems.
