Power connector overheating and not charging battery
Hi,
I've been dealing with this problem for a couple of weeks but I think my Averatec 3300 series PC notebook is now on its way out.
The power supply cord needs to be held in a specific place or wiggled in order for it to transfer power to my laptop/charge the battery. And when it is transferring power, the upper right corner of the laptop (where the power connector sits) is too hot to touch; not to mention, there is a slight frying smell!) I feel pretty confident that the problem is with the connector inside the laptop, and not with the cord. Since my computer is no longer under warranty, is it worth paying to get it fixed--and is this even easy to fix? Or should I invest in a new laptop?
Any thoughts are appreciated!
Thanks,
Marisa

My laptop when connected to power the charge does not charge at all. The battery color remains green. Could it be a hardware problem on my motherboard or probably the charger its self.
That may not be an expensive fix; unless Averatec has reinvented the wheel and used some non-standard connector. It doesn't bode well though for their design though, power connectors aren't rocket science and they apparently chose one with inadequate current handling capabilities or durability. If the system is otherwise meeting your needs, you might have it looked at before dumping it. If you are in the US, check the Better Business Bureau to find a reliable shop; there are too many of the other kind around.
