If you click on the icon of a .PPT, .PPS, .PPTX or .PPSX file and it is not opened automatically, there are two situations why this may be happening: Powerpoint is not installed in the computer you are using or those type of file extensions are not associated with Powerpoint.
In the first case, maybe when the Office package was initially installed, only Word and Excel were installed in the computer, leaving Powerpoint and/or other packages aside. In this case, you need to get the original installing media and install the Powerpoint package.
In the second case, if those files extensions are not associated with Powerpoint, ou can right click in the file, choose 'Properties' and then click on the 'General' tab. There, you need to click on 'Change' close to 'Opens with'. From there, you will need to go to the folder where you Microsoft Office was installed and search for the Powerpoint executable (in general, POWERPNT.EXE). The file will now be associated with the Powerpoint program.
These instructions are generic because different versions of Windows and Microsoft Office have different folders where the programs were installed.
