Pressure on my machine builds up rapidly, when I open the steam valve, the pressure drops to zero and the machine begins the heating cycle again. It takes several rounds of steam bleeding to get the unit up to operating temp. then it works fine

Sounds like the boiler tank isn't full.
Try
filling the reservoir,
open the steam valve and turn on the coffee espresso pump at the same time. This should pull water thru the system and then you can shut off and shut the valve to the steam.
Then let the machine cycle up to operation temp.

I forgot to add, after you run the pump and steam valve to prime with water, be sure to refill the tank.

Hi, The pressostat can be full of scale. You can remove it when the machine is cold descale it and also use a litle lubricate so the part can move more easily. You might need a new mebrane since it might have be damage but if you don't have you can cut a plastic the same round shape of the mebrane and put the both back again so that no steam will escape from the mabrane.
