PT5598hdtv 4 yrs old comes on but makes clickimg noise goes off
With back of set off I can see that the blue bulb is flickering at the same pace as the clickimg sound. the red and green bulbs are steady. All wires and connecters seem to be seated properly, however I really don't know what I looking at.

Do not panic! Do not throw your TV away like I wanted to! Here is whatmay be the solution for most of the members who have posted theircomplaints here recently. I am not an expert, but I followed all blogsfrom various websites and forums, and the conclusion wasthe same;replace the convergence board for this model. I purchasedit from www.partstore.com and since this Akai is the same model asa comparable Samsung Model, buy the Samsung comparable Convergence boardfor $77. It came to about $85 after shipping. Call them if you need theexact model #. The Convergence board has two black STK ICs and twocolors of wires, a gray kind and a blue kind,all which have 'pins' andcan easily be unplugged from the circuit boardin the TV. It is basically a complete system that takes less than30minutes to install. It is a simple swap procedure, with no soldering.Youonly need the new board and a screwdriver! Remove thel ower backboard ofyour TV where the cables are plugged in (do not unscrew all the screwsfor the screen, as it is unnecessary, and might just damage your screenif you are not careful.) It has a u-like shape and comes off easy.Detach the gray wires connecting your old board to the rest of thecircuitry, and detach the blue wires connecting the old board to thecircuitry. On the old board, there are connectors marked,from left,blue, green and red. Detach those from the old board, and mark the wiresso that you may connect the correct the wires to the new board. You thenunscrew the only screw connecting the board to the TV,and unhook theboard from the TV. Hook the new board to the hooks which held the oldboard, and screw the lone screw to the board. Plug the gray cables fromthe new board to the connectors where the gray cables from the old boardwere,and do so for the blue cables. Connect the multicolored cables tothe blue, green and red, just as was done on the old board. Reattach thecover and test the TV. Please do not replace the two STK ICs only. WhenI removed my old board, I realized that there was a burn mark, where theICs were, but maybe it was a fuse.You may replace the ICs only todiscover that it was another problem.Good luck, and I wish you all thebest in the repairs. My convergence board died in my PT5598HD.... so I snooped around in the back room with my old AKIA 42" model PT4298HD.... amazing... the convergence boards are the same. The 42" was dead for other unknown reasons... but the 55 is back in action... took me longer to pull the back panel off the TV then id did to replace the unit... THANK YOU!
