Put new vid card in pc it will boot but no pic put another vid card in it boots just fine
I have a asus p5n-e sli motherboard with a p4 ht 3.0 gig dual core processorm, a xfx 8600 gt 1 gig fatal1ty vid card running 2 sticks of 800 mhz pny gaming ram and a 400 watt power supply and windows xp pro. I have 5 fans 3 out 2 in. I am experiencing 2 different problems. The first is that 4 weeks ago I started having a problem where when I would run a game . like cod4 or AA the pc would freeze, lock up and need to be rebooted. The third week it would just boot up and after 5 min s of use it would permantly hang. I replaced the vid card i had with the 8600 gt 1 gig card. It worked beautifully for 2 weeks. Yesterday, when i went to reboot the pc it booted but no video. not even the bios would come up. I took the 8600 gt back to best buy and exchanged it for another one but the same thing. the pc boots up with no video. I put my old vid card back in ...its a 7300 le nividia card and now its working fine./ but now my nvidia 86oogt wont. any htoughts on that? also my 800 mhz ram used to show up as 800 mhz and now it only shows up as 667 mhz been all thru the bios ato no avail. I am very knowledgeable with my bios and did everything to get my ram bacjk to 800 mhz....any thoughts on that ?

I was having same problem that the memory wasn't recognized as 800mhz. My suggestion would be to look up the default voltages of your cpu and ram. Look up the default timings of your ram. Set all those in bios. I had to mess around with all the settings before getting a stable system. The end result was cpu overclocked at 20% at 2880mhz, ram at 800mhz, voltages on both cpu and ram upped one step,,,and i had to back off on the timings of the ram to 4-4-4-15-t2
Sounds to me a hardware problem. It seems to me your CPU's most likely having the problem where all sorts of high-end video adapters that you connect seems to give in. Try to consider to add a heatsink and use a thermal grease in between the CPU and the sink. After that, use a cooling fan wherein the heatsink dissipates heat the fan takes care of the heated air.
The CPU is actually the hard working hardware within our system unit. The faster it works the more heat it produces. The Power supply also is another factor when producing unwanted heat. So better use the fan on your enclosure also by connecting a molex into it to give power to the fan.

What kind of fan do you have installed? Cpu wise? it sounds like your cpu is overheating when your playing games. Due to high graphics. Try getting a better cooling system to stop the shutdowns.
With the ram, is it because your Gpu shares some of the ram?
This is common with chipsets and some GPUs.
