RADEON X1650 Pro Issue (Flickery Graphics on Boot)
A couple of days ago i bought 1GB Memory and an Ati Radeon X1650 Pro graphics card for my Dell Dimension 4600. The graphics card ran fine for 2 days as did the memory. Today I got another 1GB Memory and upgraded that also, the memory was rejected so I believe i may have the wrong memory this time, but then the graphics card started playing up evry time it came on the screen was dodgy and specles all over the display, strange colours and images.
ive taken the not acceptable memory out and the memory is now reading fine at 2GB as before.
Ive had to remove the graphics card and go back to my old one now - I dont get what could have gone wrong in between to cause that?
any ideas on whats happened?

If reisntalling drivers did not help,
- try removing the card from slot,
- if you have a different AGP or PCI video adapter, or on board card,
- plug back power and restart, then you switch back to your Radeon, and if required install drivers again.

Unplug power cable
Reinstall Drivers
Remove card from AGP slot , test different one and put back.
Test different RAM.
If you get the problem after all this, the card may have been damaged, and it is faulty, you need to test it on a different PC.

I would suggest (as others have probably suggested also), replace the video card. it is still under warranty being only a few days old. Artifacts, splotches or noisy video in graphics card often indicates the memory problems (of the video card).

You could of course try cleaning the pins of the video card with a pencil eraser (but should not be necessary on a new card).
If at boot-time (where the screen displays the graphics card and then the BIOS info) you get funky colors or scrambled image, It's the graphics card.
Reseat the card or better yet, try it on another computer.
Did you only have flickery graphics on boot alone? If so, this may be a loose insert or failiure in the hold down brace. I would suspect a loose pin. Do you have DVI/Svideo/VGA plugs on this card and if so were you using the VGA plug or the DVI to VGA adapter?
However, I would uninstall the ATI software, reattach the video card after getting the latest drivers for your ATI card from AMD. Give that a try. If that fails try the suggestions below.
Next, are you using an AMD CPU and an Nvidia chipset? If so, you should consider using a GeForce AGP card.
On your memory install. So long as the ram chips match you should be okay. But, Windows cannot see 4Gigs of Ram only 3. So a 1 Gig Ram Chip may be the addon to use.
As long as the Display only flickers momentarily at bootup, and is otherwise normal, you could continue to use the ATI display adapter. Still, as I recall the x1600 series ATI card had some real problems. Many fail really early.
With that in mind, I'd suggest you get a Nvidia GeForce 6000 for an AGP solution, and get an XFX card if you can for their warranty that is transferable.

You are going to have to dump this card. Remove the software too. Then, get an GeForce AGP card. You'll be trouble free after that.

THis can be problem with the software fo your video card, first thing to do here is to put the video card back in and try to go to safe mode and install or update the driver of the video card and if you can also do a system restore that will also be helpful....

IF you already do a system restore , try to boot on Safe mode and then uninstall the video card and reinstall it back using the driver from the setup CD, but if you can also download the latest driver from ATI site and use that one ....
There's really a possibility that the video card is bad, since its still anew video card I may advice you to repalce this video card at this time so we can isoltae the problem, because if the replacement video card work fine so we already know that , this video card is the problem....
Did you make sure that both the RAMs belong to same frequency?
u get optimum efficiency only if both the frequency match
if the graphics card is the one making problem then try to keep the CPU open for one day and provide enough cooling. see if the problem persists.
also try the combination of new memory alone and the graphics card. see what happens and get back to us
if flickers in boot screens then it is a hardware fault for sure.
either a faulty cable or a loose connection of cables.
try a different cable. and tell us what happens.
make sure you dont keep any highly magnetic components and transmitting equipments like mobiles near the monitor.
