I had the same problem with my Midland G-30 radios. The problem is with the batteries not the radio. I put a test meter on my batteries and saw the were not making full voltage/amperage. Got two new batteries ($15 each on ebay) and problem was solved. These are great GMRS portables. Replace the batteries and you will be very happy with the unit.
