Razer Barracuda sound problem (with temp. solution)
Heres the major problem:
The channels seem to have a mind of their own. If I open up a new sound producing app, the channels might be flipped, they might have sound coming out of one channel, they might be almost muted, or they might work fine, or a mixture of any of them. It seems to happen randomly as I open/close one sound app (sound forge seems to switch it up real good by just pausing/playing).
Heres a temporary solution:
Open up winamp and play a song. If your sound is jacked, go to the Barracuda control panel and switch headphone modes or S/PDIF output mode until it sounds right. Once it sounds right, either leave winamp playing or just pause/minimize. Any following sound applications will now sound correct. It seems that since Winamp has an active sound 'port' open to the card, anything else will use the same port or configuration... I've tried 3 different Barracudas in 3 different computer systems, and they all do the same thing.
Heres another minor problem:
The Barracuda control panel 'advanced' and 'modes' tabs seem to float on your screen after a resolution change. Only way to fix that is to open the Barracuda control panel and close it again.
I've sent several emails to Razer explaining the above mentioned, and here's my final response from Razer... "Technical support has no information on future product or driver releases. For any information regarding future products, please visit our website at http://www.razerzone.com."
That's after about 3 MONTHS of emailing them about this problem.
Looks like this card is left dead in the water and they have no further plans of releasing a driver for this card that isn't crippled. It's been well over a year since a new driver release for this card. The support from Razer is virtually non-existant, nor do they seem to really care about their customers.
It's just a shame that I bought this thing when it first came out. What a waste of $350. (both card and headphones) :((
