Re Skype: My daughter has a Mac (latest version) we have a PC (XP) . The video calls work between the two machines except that the video on my PC only shows a frame at a time and not a continuous video. The video is correct on the Mac. PC to PC works ok and the latest Skype version (not Beta) has been loaded on both machines

Maybe your pc is slower than the mac. are you using the same internet connection?
maybe there is a problem with her camera. not sending fast enough.
